Dr. Frits Verzijlenberg, DVM
After graduating from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht, The Netherlands in 1979, Dr. Frits Verzijlenberg was employed at the university’s department for large animal surgery for 5 years. During those five years, he specialized in large animal anaesthetics, and large animal surgery including abdominal (colic) surgery and lameness examination in horses. He co-authored an article on neurectomy in horses and also published an article on sinusitis in horses in 1984. Subsequently, he joined a small animal specialists' hospital and gained valuable knowledge and experience in small animal practice and orthopedic surgery. He later started his own mixed animal practice which grew to a three-veterinarian practice over the next ten years.
In 1995, the Verzijlenberg family emigrated to Canada; and the following year, Dr.Frits started his own mixed animal clinic in Powassan. In 2008, he relocated the clinic to a temporary building in Sundridge while building a new, state-of-the-art hospital on the same property. In September of 2011, the new hospital was officially opened; and in 2012, it gained AAHA status.

Dr. Frits Verzijlenberg is a member of the CVO, OVMA, AAHA, IVAPM, VECCS and AAFP.
Els, Hospital Manager
Els has been involved in all aspects of veterinary work since Dr. Frits opened his first clinic in 1985. Previously she was employed as a registered apothecary assistant and gained valuable medical and pharmaceutical knowledge. In addition to general pharmacology, Els has a special interest in small animal anesthesia, pain management and nutrition
As the hospital manager, Els ensures everything runs smoothly at the hospital and that every little detail is looked after. In addition, she manages the details of data in our hospital software.
Kalli, Head RVT
Corrine graduated with Honours from Seneca College in 2009. After four years in general practice, she specialized in emergency and critical care for five years. In 2018, she moved "Up North" and joined our team.
Corrine is the proud mom of Willow, a beautiful Golden Retriever mix that sometimes joins her to the hospital.
Corrine is a member of the OAVT.
Kylie graduated from Georgian College in 2013 and brings many years of experience. Ever since she was a little girl, she knew she wanted to help animals and never wavered in her desire to become a veterinary technician. In April 2019, Kylie wrote her VTNE and is now -officially - an RVT.

LAURA, BA, RVT
Laura worked full-time at our hospital from July 2009, after she completed an Undergraduate degree in Biology and English, till 2015.
In 2015, she moved to Guelph and gained a lot of experience at the ICU and large animal wards/surgery department of OVC at the University of Guelph. She assisted as the anesthesia RVT in the VSTEP Program for international veterinarians, and as a teaching assistant in the veterinary bovine and equine streams for second and third year veterinary students at Guelph University.
In May of 2017, she moved back up north and joined our hospital again, and we couldn't be happier to have her back:)
Laura has a special interest in pathology and internal medicine and is working towards a veterinary technician specialty in internal medicine.
Laura has two horses named Princess and Blue, and a sweet old kitty named Jasmin. She adopted Jasmin after she came to the clinic when she was already very old and in need of a lot of care. Jasmin now rules the house!
Laura is a member of the OAVT and NAVTA.
Mary, Client Care and dental Technician
Mary joined our team with over 20 years of experience in the human dental field and assists with dental procedures. If not assisting with dental surgery, Mary will be the first person to welcome you at the reception and help you with any questions you might have.
Mary grew up on a farm and has a 26-year-old turtle named Tommy, and two kittens named Rhonda and Curtain.
Ashley, Client Care
Ashley graduated from Ridgetown Campus from Guelph University with a Veterinary Office Administration certificate in May 2018, and joined out team that same month.
Ashley has a passion for helping animals and people; and after spending her four week placement at our hospital we made sure she stayed:)
Trista, Our saving Grace
Trista joined the team in 2015, and she keeps everything spick-and-span.
Trista is our saving grace especially on busy days, and she keeps us all sane with a big smile and a great sense of humor. She and her husband have a beautiful daughter Maycey, and in December of 2016, the family welcomed baby Paisley, a beautiful, healthy little girl.
Trista joined us again after her maternity leave and we couldn't be happier to have her back:)
The family is also home to Bosco the dog and Lily the cat.
Karen volunteers her time to give some tender love and care to our surgery patients. She will cradle them in a nice warm blanket and give them a little bit of home-away-from-home care.
Karen has worked many years with the Almaguin All Animal Rescue in Sundridge, but had to resign due to health reasons. We are very happy to have her join us - and the pets in our care - on our surgery days.
